WHAT IS HOME STAMP?

In April 2013, Kent Union took over operation of the Canterbury Student Housing Accreditation Scheme, which was formally run by Canterbury City Council. Home Stamp is the only official university service which helps students to find good quality private accommodation in Canterbury. The service is a not for profit organisation and is managed by a board consisting of seven partners who back the scheme. These are Kent Union, University of Kent, University of Creative Arts, UCASU, Canterbury Christ Church University, CCSU, and Canterbury City Council. Home Stamp advertise the largest choice of private student accommodation in Canterbury.

IS HOME STAMP THE SAME AS A LETTING AGENT?

No. The service is not-for-profit and all properties that are advertised by Home Stamp have been registered by private landlords and have met the criteria set out in the Home Stamp Standards. The Standards are in place to protect students from poor housing conditions and raise the quality of student accommodation across Canterbury.

WHAT ARE THE HOME STAMP CODE OF STANDARDS

The Home Stamp Code of Standards are there to make sure that registered landlords and agents manage and maintain their properties to a good, safe standard for student tenants.

As a minimum, all properties must have:

  • An up-to-date gas safety certificate
  • A current electrical safety certificate
  • A Mains Wired Smoke detection system
  • A Mains Wired Heat detection system
  • Quick Release Thumb Lock
  • Energy Performance Certificate

When you live in a Home Stamp registered property, you are protected by the Home Stamp Code of Standards. So should you have a complaint about your landlord or you think that they are in breach of the Code of Standards, you can make a formal complaint, which is then investigated by us.

We aim to build on the successful work already completed by Canterbury City Council and landlords across the district, through responsible management and commitment to the code of conduct.

Home Stamp works with students and landlords to help resolve disputes.

We want to create a culture of working together to continue raising standards and find solutions to housing issues, by developing a support network to help make the necessary improvements to housing in the area. We are keen develop a positive working relationship with landlords, agents and students want to know how they would like their scheme to develop. If you have any ideas please contact us.

We will be implementing regular property inspections of our accredited properties to ensure the high standard of housing is maintained.
